Caldwell Golf Club was established in 1903 and is situated 15 miles to the south west of Glasgow. Originally laid out by former Open Champion Willie Fernie and improved by James Braid, this is a premier parkland course with an active competitive membership.
An opportunity has arisen for a Course Manager in Caldwell Golf Club. The Club requires a highly motivated, passionate individual with a keen eye for detail, presentation, aesthetics and the ability to work on their own initiative. An experienced greenkeeper, the successful candidate will lead a team of greens staff and needs to be dynamic and have the drive and ambition to further improve Caldwell Golf Clubâs product and deliver the best possible golf experience for the clubâs members, their guests and visitors.
Main duties / Key responsibilities
- Manage the golf course and the green keeping team, as directed by the Board of Directors, in accordance with the Clubâs golf course maintenance policy, the health and safety policy and the Greenkeeper Code of Conduct
- Carry out effective turf maintenance through the establishment or schedules and programmes of annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance, which maximise efficiency at the course
- Prepare the course for play including marking hazards and GURs and ensuring tee markers, bunkers, golf furniture and general green maintenance is carried out
- Supervise construction and renovation projects
- Supervise the preparation and maintenance of machines for use
- Experience in development & maintenance of course drainage
- Plan and manage the control of weeds, pests and disease
- Ensuring that all faults and defects relating to the condition of the course, equipment, tools, building, etc. within the remit of grounds maintenance are reported to the Board of Directors
- Take all responsible steps to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees, patrons and visitors, by following all legislative guidelines for the preparation, use and disposal of chemicals, the safe use of tools, plant and equipment and promoting safe working practices in all areas of operation at the course
- Leadership skills - applicants must be able to lead, supervise, delegate and prioritise work schedules so the green keeping team are informed and efficient in their day to day tasks
- Utilise IT facilities to record & update all relevant course maintenance, budgeting & planning

- A highly motivated, passionate individual with a keen eye for detail, presentation and aesthetics and ability to work on their own initiative
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing
- Experience in managing, motivating and developing a small team and allocating workloads effectively
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks competently
- A high degree of flexibility and willing to âgo the extra mileâ if required
- Manage own personal development
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- NVQ level 3 in sports turf management
- A full driving licence
Desirable:
- Being an active golfer would be an advantage
- Minimum 5 yearsâ greenkeeping experience
