Grounds Mechanic

Salary: £18,000 to £23,000 per annum, dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience

Our Grounds department operates a fleet of vehicles and machinery including tractors, ride-on mowers, hand mowers, strimmers, chainsaws and blowers. We now need a practical person with a strong mechanical or engineering background to take responsibility for maintaining and repairing all this equipment.

The successful candidate will have sufficient experience as a mechanic to sometimes work unsupervised as well as within a talented and friendly team. You should be qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Maintenance and Repair (Plant) or equivalent, have a full drivers’ licence, and the physical ability that is intrinsic to this role, which is largely based outdoors. We also require someone with the flexibility to contribute to the Grounds team generally by assisting with other tasks at peak times, and who is willing to learn and undertake training courses on specific equipment. Sound IT skills are needed in order to control and keep records relating to the fleet, and ordering of parts.

This is a full-time role, for 40 hours per week (normally Monday to Friday 7am-4pm with one hour for lunch), all year round.

As well as a competitive salary, benefits include a pension scheme to which the College contributes up to 10% of salary, free gym membership and free lunches when on duty.
