Head Greenkeeper

Swaffham Golf course is an 18 hole friendly 430+ private member’s heathland golf course set in the picturesque west of Norfolk having been transformed from a 9 hole course in 2000/2001. The course and facilities at the club have been greatly improved over recent years and is now benefitting from the work carried out, not only from the investments in time and money made by the members but by a skilled and enthusiastic workforce.

We are now seeking a qualified, enthusiastic, self motivated and ambitious individual to take the club to the next level. Having secured both County and Regional events we need to employ a professionally astute person to run the currently 3 man greens team in line with the progression plans of the club, including the continuing of our commitment to developing staff and in particular apprentice staff. These plans refer to all aspects of the course, including all playing surfaces and in-house bunker refurbishment.

This position is ideally suited to an experienced Head Greenkeeper or progressive Assistant Head Greenkeeper who wishes to establish a reputation for creativity and excellence. We are, therefore, offering a very competitive salary and benefits package which is negotiable dependent on the experience, qualifications and circumstances of the right candidate.

Swaffham Golf Club is seeking an individual with the following abilities and experience.

Essential Skills:

  • 3 years experience in a supervisory role within a greens environment
  • Hands on Manager who can motivate their team
  • Qualified to NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • Spraying certificates PA1, 2 & 6
  • Detailed knowledge of HSE regulations and requirements
  • Understanding of Ecological management
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable Budgetary experience
  • Excellent time keeping
  • Attention to detail
  • Adaptability in all aspects of work
  • Problem solver.
  • Up to date knowledge of greenkeeping techniques including, but not limited to, environmental, horticultural and safety requirements.

Desirable Skills

  • Mechanical knowledge of Greens and Course maintenance equipment
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Conflict resolution
  • Report writing and delivery at Board level
  • Supervision of contractors
  • The installation and upkeep of irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of mentoring apprentices
