Deputy Course Manager (Greenkeeping)
Merrist Wood Golf Club - Guildford

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day operation of the greenkeeping team. The successful applicant will need to be experienced, hardworking, reliable and highly motivated.

They will need to demonstrate a professional and modern approach to green keeping, the ability to effectively communicate, lead and develop a team.

Applicants will, as a minimum, be expected to demonstrate a proven track record of the following:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Green keeping or higher in Sports Turf Management.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years supervisory experience with a proven ability to plan, organise and implement work programs.
  • Proven ability to motivate, lead, develop and mentor others.
  • Computer literate (basic understanding)
  • To be able to prepare and implement budgets.
  • PA1, 2 and 6a spraying certificates
  • Equipped both technically and practically to undertake green keeping duties to the highest standard.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation

It would be an advantage but not essential to have:

  • Irrigation experience including repair and maintenance
  • NPTC Chainsaw licence
  • Good working knowledge and maintenance of fine turf machinery.
  • Construction experience
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Salary will depend on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead, motivate and organisation of greenkeeping team.
  • Assist and contribute to planning of weekly, seasonal and yearly work programs.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and repair of greenkeeping machinery.
  • Supervision and assistance to the Mechanic.
  • Irrigation repair and maintenance.
  • Application of chemicals and fertilisers.
  • Assist with training programs to team members.
  • Understand and implementation of Health & Safety legislation requirements.
  • Implement budget and purchasing procedures.
  • Positive and various effective communications to all levels of organisation.
  • Working with and towards becoming a Course Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Green keeping or higher in Sports Turf Management
  • 3 years supervisory experience.(optional)
  • Computer literate. (Basic understanding)
  • PA1, 2 and 6a Spraying Certificate
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Proven ability to motivate, lead, develop and mentor others.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of modern greenkeeping machinery.
