Crowborough Beacon Golf Club (âCBGCâ) is one of the best golf courses in South East England. It is rated No 68 in Golf Worldâs 2017 list of Top 100 English golf courses and is in the Top 200 of Golf Monthlyâs 2017 best courses in UK and Ireland.
The Par 71 heathland course is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the High Weald adjoining Ashdown Forest. It provides a challenging test for all levels of golfer and is often used by Sussex CGU for their events. It has recently been used by England Golf as a Championship Venue for two National events.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced and progressive Course Manager or ambitious Deputy Course Manager to raise the standards of our golf course. Reporting to the Director of Green and the Board of Directors you will be a key member of the management team

Job Description
Main duties / Key responsibilities
- Manage the golf course and the greenkeeping team, as directed by the Director of Green, in accordance with the Clubâs golf course maintenance policy and itâs health and safety policy, together with the Greenkeeper Code of Conduct.
- Carry out effective turf maintenance practices through the establishment of schedules and programmes of annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance, which maximise the efficiency of work on the golf course.
- Prepare the course for play including marking hazards and GURs and ensuring tee markers, bunkers, golf furniture and general green maintenance is carried out.
- Oversee the Management of the Golf Course Estate.
- Carry out new, and maintain existing, heather restoration programmes.
- Be aware of and operate within the Clubâs land management agreement with Natural England, and maintain clearance areas funded by Natural England.
- Manage and maintain the environs of the Clubhouse.
- Allocate workloads effectively and monitor performance and efficiency of the greenkeeping team in performance of their duties.
- Plan and manage a Crop Protection programme.
- Develop & maintain course drainage.
- Have a good working knowledge of irrigation and irrigation systems including PC based systems.
- Work alongside our agronomist and crop protection advisors to ensure best practices are employed.
- Work with the Director of Green and the Board on future development plans for the golf course.
- Plan, supervise and execute small scale course improvement projects e.g. bunker reconstruction/renovation, tee reconstruction.
- Supervise the preparation and maintenance of machinery for use, exhibiting practical skills and technical knowledge relating to machinery, implementing effective record keeping relating to machinery.
- Ensure that all faults and defects relating to the condition of the course, equipment, tools, buildings, etc. within the remit of grounds maintenance are reported to the Director of Green.
- Take all responsible steps to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees, members and visitors, by following all legislative guidelines for the preparation, use and disposal of chemicals, the safe use of tools, plant and equipment and promoting safe working practices in all areas of operation at the course.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills - applicants must be able to delegate and prioritise work schedules so the greenkeeping team are informed and efficient in their day to day tasks.
- Utilise IT programs to record & update all relevant course maintenance, budgeting & planning documents.
- Be able to prepare and present green budgets and then work within them once approved.
- Communicate effectively with, and make presentations to members, management and committees.
- Be aware of and keep up to date on best practices on environmental issues.
- Carry out annual staff appraisals.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- Minimum of NVQ level 3 but preferably NVQ level 4, foundation degree or undergraduate degree.
- Experienced user of a wide range of modern machinery.
- Wide working experience of all course tasks.
- Experience of managing staff.
- Experience of working with external contractors.
- A member of BIGGA.
- Active participant in CPD.
- Conversant with Health & Safety, LOLER, PUWER, Risk and COSHH assessments relating to golf course operation.
- A full driving licence.
Desirable:
- Being an active golfer would be an advantage.
- Minimum 10 yearsâ greenkeeping experience.
- Appreciation of the agronomy of a fast running golf course.
- Relevant FEPA Certificates of Competence.
