Prestwick Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world having been formed in 1851. This private 18 hole membersâ club was the first course designed by Old Tom Morris and still retains many of the original holes and greens. The Club instituted the Open Championship in 1860 and hosted the event on 24 occasions. Prestwick has also been a regular host club of the Amateur Championship and other national amateur events ??â most recently the 2017 Scottish Amateur Championship. The course provides a tough test of links golf over fast running fairways and sloping greens. The golf club regularly welcomes visiting golfers from around the world and ensuring the course is presented in the best condition is a primary consideration. The course was recently voted into Golf Magazineâs Top 100 Courses in the World.
Prestwick Golf Club is now seeking a Deputy Head Greenkeeper to assist the Head Greenkeeper in delivering the course to the highest standards required by the Club.
Applicants should have a can do attitude and a desire to improve all areas of the workplace including course, buildings, infrastructure and personnel.
Applicants will need to possess the following qualifications, skills and necessary experience:
- A highly motivated, passionate individual with a keen eye for detail, presentation and aesthetics and ability to work on their own initiative
- NVQ level 3 or HNC/HND or relevant green keeping experience (minimum 7 Years)
- Machinery - must have an in depth knowledge of all machinery operations and machinery set up including aeration equipment, tractor implements and the day to day mowing fleet. This should be to a standard to be able to give tuition to younger staff members and seasonal staff. Experience of using grinding equipment for sharpening cutting machinery would be advantageous.
- Irrigation - must have in depth knowledge of the workings of an irrigation system, pump house system, pipework, sprinklers and software on the PC.
- Pests and Disease - along with the application of all pesticides and fertilizers the applicant should have a good knowledge of integrated pest management, sprayer calibration and knowledge of the workings of spray vehicles. Holding up to date spraying certificates would be advantageous.
- Health and Safety - a knowledge and understanding of H & S including risk assessments and COSHH.
- Leadership skills - applicants must be able to lead, supervise, delegate and prioritise work schedules so the green keeping team are informed and efficient in their day to day tasks.
- A full driving licence
- A high degree of flexibility and willing to âgo the extra mileâ if required
- Being an active golf player would be an advantage
Salary will be based on the applicantâs experience and will be discussed when applicants are short listed. There is no accommodation available with this role.
It is hoped the successful candidate will be available to start by the end of 2017.
