Burghley Park Golf Club has an exciting opportunity for a new Deputy Course Manager to work alongside our new Course Manager to consistently present our fine grasses course to the highest standard.
As a members club, Burghley Park Golf Club was formed in 1890, and sits within the historic Capability Brown landscape of Burghley House, with whom the Club has close links. The native grassland links course has been managed sustainably, meaning that there is still a high proportion of bents and fescues in the greens and fairways. The Club has recently embarked on a course development and improvement programme, under the guidance of a leading golf course consultant. The machinery fleet and facilities has been or are being upgraded. This is an exciting time for the Club, as we are committed to a significant development programme for the whole property, under the leadership of a new Management Board and Course Manager.
In addition to the 18 hole golf course the Club also has a new covered 10 bay driving range, chipping and putting greens, and a 3 hole Academy course/Wedge Practice Area.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Course Manager but will be expected to manage some core elements of the greens operation and budgets on a daily basis. They will play an important role, alongside the Consultant, in contributing to the strategic development of the golf course. They will also be required to work with other stakeholders in the Course, particularly the Burghley Estate, and deputise when the Course Manager is absent.
We are looking for an ambitious Deputy Course Manager with the desire and experience to drive the course forward, with previous experience in a senior greenkeeping role being desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will need to be qualified to at least NVQ L3 or equivalent. They must also be able to demonstrate experience in the following key areas:
- Excellent management and communications skills
- Management of fine grasses
- Day to day management of staff and allocation of work, with clear evidence of expertise in some core element of a greens operation (eg machinery, COSH, H&S, irrigation, etc)
- Use of technology, both as a management and communication tool
- Knowledge of procurement of Course Material, and other related items
- Understanding of both traditional and modern course management techniques, and how each one can improve course condition and playability
- Course construction
- Flexible approach to working hours
- Awareness and understanding of the game of golf, and how the work of the greens staff impacts upon the golfer
The Deputy Course Manager position is full-time, permanent and based on a annualised 40 hour week, with weekend work on a rota basis. Salary and benefits offered will be in relation to qualifications held, experience and suitability.
Applicants are invited to apply in writing or by email, with an introduction letter and a CV to:
